    Abdominoperineal Resection for Anal Cancer

    Abdominoperineal Resection for Anal Cancer

Cancer of the anus and anal canal includes malignant tumours located in the anatomical zone between the upper edge of the anorectal ring and the border of the transition of the anus into the perianal skin. Tumours located distal to the edge of the anus are classified as neoplasms of the perianal skin. Malignant lesions of the anus account for 1-2% of all colon cancers. Most often, cancer of the anus is observed in the age group over 50, mainly in men.

The leading Israeli clinic TAMC employs experienced professionals who have all the necessary knowledge and skills to detect and treat cancer. We use modern equipment, which is very sensitive and allows you to detect pathology at the initial stage. This is extremely important, since the earlier the disease is detected, the easier it is to get rid of it. Thus, in 90% of cases, it is possible to prevent the development of metastases in the body.

    Preparing for surgery

Before the operation, the necessary tests are passed, research and consultation of specialist doctors who will help prepare for the intervention, as well as the determination of individual factors that affect the course of the operation: allergy to drugs, individual intolerance to some drugs, etc.

The doctor advises the patient not to eat foods that cause gas formation, and also to observe the drinking regime. The patient should be able to carry a card with data on previous studies. After a comprehensive study of the body, the doctor will select the tactics of the operation necessary for the patient to fully recover. It should be noted that the specialists of our clinic have the vast practical experience and help even seriously ill patients.

    Surgery

Abdominoperineal resection is a surgical procedure in which the anus, rectum and part of the sigmoid colon are removed through an incision in the abdomen. The doctor sutures the end of the intestine to an opening on the surface of the abdomen called the stoma so that waste products from the body can be collected in a “bag” outside the body. This procedure is called a colostomy. Lymph nodes with cancer cells can also be removed during this surgery.

    Rehabilitation period

After the operation, the patient is under the close attention of the doctor for some time. The specialist gives all the necessary recommendations that must be followed at home. After some time, the patient needs to come to a comprehensive examination of the body to assess the results of the therapy.
