Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)
Blood disease is still a deadly, serious disease that requires aggressive treatment. There are several types of leukemia, which are distinguished by their morphological structure. Chronic lymphocytic leukemia is characterized by the accumulation of atypical mature cells not only in the bone marrow and lymphatic tissue but also in the spleen and liver. CLL is a fairly common cancer, especially among older people. Unfortunately, in recent years more and more people with chronic lymphoblastic leukemia turn out to be younger than 50 years old.
In chronic leukemia, lymphocyte cells only partially mature and may resemble normal white blood cells. The problem is that they do not perform their function and do not fight infection like normal white blood cells. Such cells (atypical B-lymphocytes) gradually accumulate in the bone marrow. They interfere with the production and functioning of normal blood cells.
Symptoms of the disease
If you suspect a disease, you should not postpone the visit to the doctor, not hide from the problem, but immediately begin the treatment that the specialist prescribes. Symptoms include:
- Enlarged tonsils and lymph nodes.
- Increased fatigue and dizziness.
- Night sweats.
- Discoloration of the skin.
- Weight loss and lack of appetite.
- Bleeding and bruising.
- Reduced body resistance to infections.
Diagnosis of the disease
Any treatment is prescribed based on the examination. In the case of chronic leukemia, conservative but highly effective methods are usually used.
- Analysis and blood smear. Laboratory studies will show the quantitative content of a certain type of cells.
- Assists in determining prognosis and cytogenetic research that detects chromosomal mutations.
- Analysis of bone marrow biopsy allows you to assess the rate of development of the disease.
- Instrumental methods such as PET-CT or MRI examine internal structures and tissues, show their condition, presence and location of metastases.
For the diagnosis to be as reliable as possible, modern equipment is required that meets all medical standards. The Israeli clinic Tel Aviv Medical Clinic is equipped with such innovative equipment, which has been demonstrating positive results in the treatment of blood cancer for several years. The experienced staff of the Department of Hematology uses advanced technologies and unique techniques to effectively combat leukemia, which give the patient great chances of recovery.
