Coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG)
Coronary artery bypass surgery is a surgical intervention on the heart during which a blocked artery is bypassed with a vascular transplant. Thus, it is possible to restore normal blood flow in the arteries of the heart. In this case, transplants are taken from the patients themselves – their own arteries and veins. This procedure can reduce the symptoms of angina pectoris and significantly reduces the risk of a heart attack.
Specialists of the leading Israeli clinic Tel Aviv Medical Clinic have vast experience and extensive knowledge in the treatment of heart pathologies. We use the latest equipment and innovative therapy technologies. All our staff undergo special training annually. The wards of the department are equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay of patients.
We set tariffs at the state level. Thus, you get high-quality services at an affordable cost. The department has a specialized centre where you can get psychological help. Our doctors use original certified drugs. Our staff will help contact charities to raise funds for treatment if necessary.
Surgery
During coronary artery bypass grafting, the so-called “free” conduits (from the great saphenous vein, radial artery) are used; the distal end is anastomosed with the coronary artery below the stenosis, and the proximal end with the ascending aorta. First of all, it is important to emphasize that the procedure is a microsurgical operation since the surgeon works on arteries with a diameter of 1.5-2.5 mm.
The operation takes 4-5 hours. The patient is anaesthetized, and surgeons begin to prepare the arteries for use in the form of shunts. A qualified specialist selects a shunt of the required diameter and size. After the doctor completes the transplant, the heart-lung machine turns off and the heart beats on its own. Before suturing, temporary electrodes are sutured to the heart to stimulate their operation. Often, the doctor connects a pacemaker until the heart restores its normal rhythm.
Rehabilitation
After surgery, the patient is in a hospital for several weeks. The attending physician explains in detail how the patient should behave for six months. He is developing a special diet, a set of physical procedures. The patient should avoid prolonged exertion, do not take a bath, do not lift weights. If there are signs of infection or pain, you should immediately contact a specialist.
