Liver Cancer: overview
Liver cancer or liver cell cancer is a malignant tumor that localizes to the liver. The neoplasm comes from liver cells or is metastasis of another (primary) tumor. Liver metastases develop much more frequently than primary tumors. This is due to the nature of circulation and liver function in the body. Primary liver cancer has the following types: hepatocellular carcinoma, angioplastic sarcoma (angiosarcoma), hepatobalstoma and hemangiosarcoma, cholangiocarcionoma.
The causes and mechanism of the development of the disease are not yet well understood. The influence of geographical location, climate, diet, and some medicines were investigated. In patients with alcoholism, primary hepatic cell carcinoma often develops against the background of cirrhosis. Liver cancer can be found at any age, more often they get sick after 40 years.

Pathology is often diagnosed during the ultrasound. Since the disease does not show it in the initial stages, it is difficult to detect it in time. To clarify the diagnosis, the specialist conducts:
- computer and magnetic resonance imaging – for more detailed imaging of the tumor;
- angiography – to determine types of education;
- hepatoscintigraphy – to clarify the diagnosis and to study the tumour in more detail.
A biopsy is not performed as there is a risk of bleeding.
Treatment of the disease
The course of the disease can be asymptomatic, in which case it is necessary to be registered with an oncologist. This formation can disappear on its own or transform into malignant. Surgery is necessary when the neoplasm grows rapidly and compresses neighbouring organs. However, liver fibroma grows extremely rarely and its cells do not metastasize to neighbouring organs and tissues.
