Side effects
In practice, not all types of chemotherapy cause hair loss. This complication is characteristic of a narrow range of drugs, many patients do not encounter it. During the action of the drug, the activity of renewing cells of the body may decrease, due to which the nails and hair stop growing, hair loss occurs, the hematopoietic system is suppressed. After a course of chemotherapy, a recovery period is needed, during which the body returns to normal. Pronounced complications are not observed in all patients, but their risk increases with increasing duration of treatment. The following side effects are common after drug therapy:
- hair loss, nail fragility;
- nausea, vomiting;
- impaired appetite, change in taste;
- anemia, bleeding;
- violation of immunity;
- diarrhea;
- infertility, sexual and reproductive impairment.
Most complications can be corrected, with the correct treatment, many of them can be prevented or stopped at the first occurrence. Severe complications can cause increased intervals between chemotherapy courses.
