Osteosarcoma Support Programs and Services
Osteosarcoma, osteogenic sarcoma, is an aggressive malignant tumor whose cells originate from bone tissue. This is the most common primary bone malignancy (primary tumors – that is, tumors occurring in the bones themselves – should be distinguished from bone metastases of other tumors).
Most often, osteosarcoma affects the long tubular bones of the arms and legs. In most cases, the tumor occurs near the knee joint – in the upper tibia or the lower femur. The upper part of the femur, humerus, pelvic bones, ulna and fibula, and skull bones may also be affected.
Support for our patients in the clinic
Often, specialists use surgery as a treatment for osteosarcoma. Any surgery requires the correct rehabilitation of the patient. The more extensive and more complicated the operation, the usually longer the rehabilitation period. The main goal of rehabilitation is a quick return to normal life. Postoperative rehabilitation is an important part of surgical treatment.
Patients who have undergone surgery are provided with muscle strengthening and restoration of normal motor activity. The duration and characteristics of rehabilitation depend on various factors:
- Complexity of surgery;
- General health of the patient;
- Patient age;
- Presence or absence of complications;
- Type of operation (cavity, laparoscopic, laser, etc.);
- How extensive the intervention is.
At Tel Aviv Medical Clinic are used modern methods of treatment, including minimally invasive operations. Any patient undergoing surgery undergoes rehabilitation in the clinic. An individual recovery program is being developed for each patient. And the time spent in the compartment depends on the speed of restoration of motor functions.
Physiotherapists of the Tel Aviv Medical Clinic medical center begin working with the patient immediately after the surgical operation. Physiotherapists instruct on how to do gymnastics and restore the activity of joints and muscles. As the patient’s well-being improves, the burden increases. Thanks to the fact that our clinic employs experienced physiotherapists who are real professionals in their business, patients recover quite quickly even after difficult operations.
