Retroperitoneal sarcoma surgery
Sarcoma localized behind the peritoneum (retroperitoneal, or retroperitoneal sarcoma) is a relatively rare type of malignant tumour, usually formed from connective tissue cells, fat or muscle cells located on the back wall of the abdominal cavity. Such tumours in most cases are detected at an advanced stage, since only then do symptoms appear. In many cases, the tumour is already very large at the time of detection of the disease, and other abdominal organs are often involved in the process. The average age at which such formations develop is 50 years. At the same time, the disease can occur at any age. The prevalence among men and women is the same.
Symptoms
If you have the following symptoms of the disease, you must immediately make an appointment with your doctor:
- abdominal pain;
- compaction in the abdomen;
- backache;
- swelling of the lower extremities;
- bowel obstruction;
- premature satiation.
A qualified specialist will conduct the necessary diagnostics and make the correct diagnosis.
Diagnosis
In order to make a correct diagnosis, the doctor uses the following research methods:
- arteriography;
- radiopaque studies;
- excretory urography;
- computed, magnetic resonance imaging;
- histological examination of the tumour;
- ultrasound diagnostics; tissue biopsy.
Then, based on the data obtained, the doctor selects an individual therapy regimen for each patient, taking into account his general condition and the characteristics of the development of pathology.
Treatment
With this disease, various treatment options are possible – surgery, radiation therapy or chemotherapy. At the same time, the only option that gives a chance for a complete cure is surgery, and only if the tumour is completely removed (this is not always possible since extensive involvement of neighbouring organs is often found).
The leading Israeli clinic Tel Aviv Medical Clinic is equipped with the latest equipment that allows you to use modern methods of operations. Our surgeons use minimally invasive methods of intervention. This method is the safest for the patient and less traumatic. Before the operation, the patient undergoes a full examination of the body. Then a consultation of doctors of related specialities is collected, on which the optimal method of therapy is selected.
