Systemic Mastocytosis
Mastocytosis is a disease characterized by the appearance of red spots on the body. At the same time, the person experiences severe itching. The pathology proceeds quite aggressively, and the patient in most cases asks for qualified help in time. An experienced doctor conducts the necessary research and selects an individual therapy regimen.
There are 2 main types of mastocytosis:
- Cutaneous mastocytosis, which mainly affects children. At the same time, mast cells accumulate mainly in the skin, but they are not found in large numbers in other parts of the body.
- Systemic mastocytosis, which mainly affects adults, is when mast cells accumulate in large numbers in body tissues such as skin, internal organs and bones. There are several subtypes of systemic mastocytosis.

Unfortunately, there is no cure for mastocytosis. Therefore, the goal of treatment is to try to relieve symptoms. Treatment options will depend on the type of mastocytosis and the severity of the symptoms. Mild to moderate cases of cutaneous mastocytosis can be treated with steroid creams (topical corticosteroids) for a short time. They reduce the number of mast cells that can release histamine and cause skin swelling. Antihistamines can also be used to treat symptoms of cutaneous or indolent mastocytosis. They block the action of histamine and are often used to treat allergic conditions.
