Treatment for Appendiceal Cancer

Cancer of the appendix is quite rare but requires more experience and attention from the treating specialists. Often this dangerous disease is mistaken for banal appendicitis. At TAMC, experienced doctors can carry out comprehensive diagnostics that will detect the disease even at an early stage, thus, in 90% of cases, it is possible to completely get rid of the disease at an early stage.

Preparing for treatment

First of all, the patient is examined by a competent doctor who, based on the results of the consultation, prescribes certain tests and tests. The examination may include:

  • a biopsy followed by histological analysis;
  • laboratory blood tests;
  • ultrasound procedure;
  • magnetic resonance imaging computed tomography;
  • positron emission tomography.

This study helps the doctor determine the stage and size of the tumour, the features of the development of the pathology, the general condition of the patient and the presence of an allergic reaction.

Treatment

Most often, the treatment of appendix cancer in the early stages begins when the patient removes this rudimentary process of the intestine and accidentally learns about the presence of a tumour in it. Minimally invasive surgeries are key to successfully treating appendix cancer. Usually, doctors of TAMC remove not only the appendix but also part of the intestine. Thus, they try to prevent the spread of the disease. To consolidate the result, the patient may be prescribed chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

Chemotherapy can take a special method when a heated drug is introduced into the abdominal region. This treatment of appendix cancer in our clinic makes it possible to get rid of residual cancer cells. To alleviate the condition of the patient, aids are prescribed. A combination of these methods is possible. Irradiation takes place on the latest linear accelerators, which make it possible to act on residual cancer cells as efficiently as possible.

Rehabilitation

After all the procedures, the patient remains in the hospital for some time under the close supervision of doctors. A specialist for each patient develops his recovery plan, which includes taking drugs, following a diet, conducting physical procedures. When the patient is discharged home, the doctor will give the necessary recommendations. After some time, a person needs to come to an examination to evaluate the therapy performed.
