    Blood test information

    CA-19.9 Blood Test

Measures a protein used as a tumor marker (Tumor Marker).

    Result: 4 days Code: 86301
    387

    Description of Blood Analysis:

Carbohydrate antigen 19.9 (CA 19.9) is a molecular compound synthesized by the epithelial cells of the digestive tract. Normally, this marker is present in the blood in minimal amounts. An elevation in its levels serves as a significant indicator of changes in the pancreatic tissue, bile ducts, and stomach, although it is not definitive proof of a specific pathology. Test results assist the physician in evaluating cellular exchange stability and glandular function, which is essential for determining further diagnostic strategies.

    What does the analysis represent?

    • Purpose: Quantitative determination of CA 19.9 antigen levels in the serum.
    • Primary Application: Monitoring the condition of pancreatic tissues and ducts, assessing therapeutic response, and identifying hidden biological trends.
    • Method: High-precision immunochemical analysis of a venous blood sample.

    Recommendations for the Test (General)

    • Timing: Morning hours are preferred for the blood draw after a period of rest.
    • Fasting: A fasting window of 4–8 hours is recommended before visiting the laboratory.
    • Rest: Spend at least 15–30 minutes in a quiet, seated position immediately before the test.
    • Avoidance: Avoid intensive physical exertion and smoking for at least one hour prior to the procedure.

    What can affect the results?

    • Factors increasing levels: Liver inflammation (hepatitis), bile duct obstruction (gallstones, cholestasis), pancreatitis, and certain benign gastrointestinal conditions.
    • Influencing factors: Individual metabolic characteristics and the recovery period following recent abdominal surgeries.

    When to take the test?

    • Recommendations: Conducted upon a specialist’s referral to clarify tissue activity or as part of regular follow-ups for previously identified conditions.
    • Preparation: Maintain a standard diet for several days before the test, avoiding excessive fatty foods and alcohol.

    How to interpret the results?

Data interpretation is the sole competence of the treating physician. A single CA 19.9 value never constitutes a diagnosis. In clinical practice, this marker is analyzed through its dynamics and in combination with symptoms, ultrasound, CT, or MRI data. Only an expert can accurately determine if an elevation is due to inflammation or more serious underlying processes.

    Possible further investigations

    • Visualization: Abdominal ultrasound, CT, or MRI (MRCP) for detailed evaluation of the pancreas and biliary system.
    • Additional Tests: CEA analysis and liver function panels to refine the clinical picture.

When does the next step make sense?

If the CA 19.9 analysis is requested for digestive organ monitoring, the results are interpreted alongside instrumental findings (Ultrasound, CT). Further diagnostic tactics are determined individually based on the total clinical context.

👉 If necessary, you can discuss the analysis results with a specialist such as a oncologist ( Doctors – TAMC ).
