    Blood test information

    Estradiol 17 Beta Blood Test

Measures the level of the main estrogen in the body.

    Result: Two days Code: 82670
    280.50

    Description of blood Analysis:

Estradiol 17 Beta (also known as E2) is the most potent and abundant form of estrogen circulating in the body. While it is present in both sexes, it is the primary female sex hormone produced by the ovaries, as well as the placenta during pregnancy. In men, smaller amounts are produced by the testes and through the conversion of testosterone. This hormone is essential for the development of secondary sexual characteristics, the regulation of the menstrual cycle, and the maintenance of bone density and cardiovascular health.

    What Does the Test Represent?

    • Goal: To evaluate ovarian function, monitor follicular development, and assess the status of the reproductive system.
    • Main Application: Investigating menstrual irregularities, assessing fertility, monitoring hormone replacement therapy (HRT), and diagnosing puberty-related disorders or estrogen-secreting tumors.
    • Method: Chemiluminescent immunoassay (CLIA) or Electrochemistry.

    Collection Recommendations (General)

    • Timing: For women of reproductive age, the timing is critical and usually depends on the day of the menstrual cycle (often Day 2–5 for baseline assessment). For men or postmenopausal women, timing is less restricted.
    • Hygiene: Standard venipuncture protocol.
    • Material: Venous blood (serum).
    • Specific Rules: Results must always be interpreted in the context of the specific phase of the menstrual cycle.

    What Can Affect the Results?

    • Factors Altering Levels: Pregnancy, recent strenuous exercise, and high levels of emotional stress.
    • Medications: Oral contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy, clomiphene, and certain corticosteroids can significantly suppress or elevate levels. Biotin supplements in high doses may also interfere with certain lab assays.

    When to Take the Test?

    • Recommendations: If you experience irregular periods, symptoms of menopause (hot flashes, night sweats), infertility issues, or if there is a need to monitor ovulation during IVF treatments. In men, it is used if there are signs of feminization or hormonal imbalance.
    • Preparation: Fasting is generally not required, but it is advised to avoid smoking and alcohol for 24 hours prior to the draw.

    How to Interpret the Results?

The interpretation of Estradiol 17 Beta levels is strictly a clinical analytical task for a physician. In women, “normal” ranges shift dramatically depending on the follicular, ovulatory, or luteal phase. A low level in reproductive-age women may indicate ovarian failure or PCOS, while high levels could suggest ovarian cysts or tumors. In men, elevated levels may indicate a conversion issue from testosterone. Only a specialist can “fine-tune” the diagnosis by comparing E2 levels with FSH and LH.

    Possible Further Investigations

    • FSH and LH: To assess the communication between the pituitary gland and the ovaries/testes.
    • Progesterone: To confirm if ovulation has occurred.
    • Prolactin: To rule out other causes of menstrual or fertility disruption.
    • Pelvic Ultrasound: To correlate hormonal findings with physical follicular growth or uterine lining thickness.

When Does the Next Step Make Sense?

If Estradiol 17 Beta levels are inconsistent with the patient’s cycle or symptoms, the next step involves longitudinal monitoring or stimulation tests. Maintaining optimal estradiol levels is crucial for reproductive health, emotional well-being, and long-term bone strength.

👉 If necessary, you can discuss the analysis results with a specialist such as a gynecologist (Doctors – TAMC), endocrinologist (Doctors – TAMC)/
