Dr. Irena Stefansky, specialist in oncology and internal medicine, director of oncology hospitalization

We’re here to help — feel free to reach out anytime.

At Tel Aviv Medical Clinic, we’ve put together a team of top specialists from all over Israel, but what really sets us apart isn’t just the technology. It’s how we treat people. We take our time. We don’t rush. We explain everything, sometimes twice, until it makes sense. Because that’s what we’d want if we were on the other side of the desk.

Types of Cancer We Treat at TAMC

    • Brain tumors & brain cancer Department

We treat brain tumors. Some are aggressive, like glioblastoma. Others are less dangerous but still need careful hands. Our team includes both neuro-oncologists and brain surgeons, because no case should ever be handled by just one pair of eyes.

    • Head & Neck cancer Department

We also see patients with cancers in the head and neck — throat, tongue, jaw, vocal cords. These tumors are tricky, and the treatment can affect how you eat, speak, even how you breathe. So, we work with ENT surgeons, radiotherapists, and rehabilitation experts to make sure nothing important is overlooked.

Mediastinal tumors, lung cancer, pleural cancer, as well as rare forms, including lymphomas. We work within the framework of multidisciplinary consultations.

    • Breast cancer Department

Then there’s breast cancer. We don’t just treat it — we really think through how to treat it. Some women need chemo, others don’t. Some want reconstruction, others don’t. We follow their lead.

Treatment of ovarian, uterine, cervical and other gynecological tumors.

For skin cancers, including melanoma, we use surgery, immune-based drugs, and biologics. These treatments are often very effective — especially when caught early.

    • Gastrointestinal cancer Department

We help people with digestive cancers too — colon, stomach, pancreas, liver. There’s often more than one way to go: chemo, targeted drugs, radiation, or even clinical trials. What matters is that we find the right path for that person, not just for the diagnosis.

Treatment of bone, soft tissue, muscle and vascular tumors. Support at all stages – from diagnostics to rehabilitation.

    • Urology cancer Department

We treat prostate cancer. Bladder cancer. Kidney cancer. Some patients need surgery, others manage just fine with focused therapy. There’s no formula. We discuss every option with you.

    • Hematology & Blood cancer Department

We also treat blood cancers — lymphoma, leukemia, myeloma. And we work closely with transplant centers when a bone marrow transplant becomes the next step.

For children with cancer — brain tumors, sarcomas, bone cancers — we create a space where parents feel safe, where they can ask anything. Our pediatric oncology team believes that honesty and kindness matter just as much as the treatment itself.

    • Radiotherapy Department

And yes — we do radiation therapy here, including IMRT and SBRT. These are precise, powerful tools. They can help when surgery isn’t an option. They can also shrink tumors before or after chemo. We plan every session down to the millimeter.

    • Genetics & Molecular Department
    • Clinical Research Department

Here’s how we treat cancer at our clinic

We believe medicine should fit the patient — not the other way around. Every person who comes to us brings a different story, and our job is to listen carefully and respond with the right combination of experience, science, and heart.

Some people arrive after a long diagnostic journey. Others come straight after hearing the word “cancer” for the first time. Either way, we’re here to walk with them — step by step.

FAQ — answered personally by Dr. Irina Stefansky

How should you choose a private oncologist in Israel?

It’s not just about the name or the title. Choosing a doctor is deeply personal.
You need to feel heard, understood, and safe.
In my experience, the right oncologist is someone who listens patiently, explains without rushing, and stays close — not just as a doctor, but as a person.
In private practice, we’re also more flexible. We can offer quicker access and, most importantly, care that’s shaped around you.

Can I send my documents for an online consultation?

    Yes, of course.
I work with many patients from abroad, especially from Russian-speaking countries.
You can send me your CT scans, MRIs, biopsy reports — whatever you have — and I’ll take the time to review everything.
After that, I’ll give you my full opinion.
This way, you get a specialist’s insight without flying anywhere.

How long does it take to begin treatment?

    Usually, not long at all.
At TAMC, we try to keep things simple.
Once I have your test results and reports, I can build your treatment plan within a few days.
When it comes to fast-growing tumors, waiting just isn’t an option.

What’s the difference between standard treatment and personalized care?

Standard treatment is like a general map — it works for many, but not for everyone.
    Personalized oncology is something else.
We look at the tumor’s genetic makeup. We ask how it might respond to certain drugs.
This is essential in many cases — breast cancer, lung cancer, GI tumors, and some rare cancers too.

What does chemotherapy feel like? And how do we help during it?

    It really depends.
Some people feel tired. Others get nausea. But we have ways to reduce most side effects.
I always explain what to expect — honestly.
And we plan ahead, using supportive medication to keep your life as normal as possible during treatment.

What is radiotherapy, and when is it used?

Radiation therapy targets the tumor directly.
The idea is to destroy cancer cells while protecting healthy ones nearby.
I work closely with top radiation experts in Israel.
We use it in brain tumors, head and neck cancers, prostate cancer, and after surgery for breast cancer too.

When should someone ask for a second opinion?

Whenever something feels unclear — or the situation is complicated.
I believe second opinions are smart.
They’re not about doubting anyone — they’re about being sure.
Sometimes they confirm the original plan. Other times, they offer a better one.

I live abroad and only speak English/Russian. Can I still get treatment?

    Yes, absolutely.
Many of my patients speak only English or Russian.
We can talk over Zoom, WhatsApp, or email — whatever is easiest for you.
And all the explanations you need will be in your language.

Which cancers do you personally treat?

I work with breast cancer, lung cancer, GI cancers, skin tumors, and also with gynecologic and urologic cancers.
My role is to be there from the first step — explaining each test, every option, and every choice we make.

Do you treat rare cancers too?

    Yes.
I’ve seen many unusual cases — neuroendocrine tumors, complex metastases, and more.
In these situations, I always consult with other specialists and with the research centers we collaborate with.

Can patients get treatment in Israel without being hospitalized?

    Yes, in many cases.
We offer outpatient care — day treatments, radiation, targeted therapy.
There’s no need to stay overnight unless it’s really necessary.
