    Professional Experience

Dr. Evgeniy Katzman is a senior physician specializing in infectious diseases, currently practicing at Ichilov (Sourasky) Medical Center. He has extensive clinical experience in the evaluation and consultation of patients with severe and complex infectious conditions, as well as medical cases that require precise diagnostics and a multidisciplinary approach including surgery, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and more…

In his daily practice, Dr. Katzman is frequently consulted on diagnostically challenging cases, including prolonged fever of unknown origin, infections resistant to antibacterial therapy, infectious complications following hospitalization or surgical procedures, and infections in patients with significant comorbidities or immunocompromised states.

    Professional Approach

Frequently Asked Questions with Dr. Katzman

    1. When does it make sense to be tested for sexually transmitted infections?

Most patients come not because of a specific symptom, but because something feels uncertain. There may have been unprotected contact, a change of partner, or lingering doubts without a clear answer. In such situations, testing is a way to get clarity rather than guess.

    2. Do there have to be symptoms?

No — and this often surprises people.
In practice, I frequently see patients who feel completely well, yet testing reveals an infection. The opposite also happens: symptoms are present, but there is no active infectious process. Relying on symptoms alone is not always reliable.

    3. Which infections are most commonly related to sexual contact?

Depending on the situation, testing may include HIV, syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes viruses, CMV, Epstein–Barr virus, hepatitis viruses, and others that can be transmitted through intimate contact or become active in this context.
The specific panel is always selected individually.

    4. Is it necessary to test for everything?

No — and this is important.
The choice of tests depends on symptoms, medical history, timing since potential exposure, and any previous results. In most cases, targeted testing is more appropriate than a broad, unfocused panel.

    5. Is anonymous testing possible?

Yes. For many patients this is a sensitive issue, and that is fully understood. Testing is performed confidentially and without unnecessary formalities.

    6. What should I do if a test result is positive?

    First — do not panic.
Second — interpret the result correctly. Not every positive result means there is an active infection that requires treatment. This is where an infectious disease specialist is essential: to explain what truly requires treatment and what may only need observation or follow-up testing.
