What He Focuses On
A major part of Professor Herishanu’s work is devoted to chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Before starting any treatment, he carefully reviews each case: recent lab tests, any other medical issues, and the genetic profile of the disease. From there, he outlines a plan that might involve close observation for a time, targeted medications, or, when indicated, chemotherapy. For certain cases, he also performs bone marrow transplantation, including less intensive “mini-transplants” that are easier on the body.
Other Conditions He Treats
- Chronic and acute leukemias (CLL, AML, ALL)
- Hodgkin’s and non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas
- Multiple myeloma
- Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML)
- Uncommon blood and clotting disorders
His Background
Professor Herishanu earned his medical degree from Ben-Gurion University and completed his internal medicine training at Sapir Medical Center in Kfar Saba. He went on to specialize in hematology and later trained further at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NIH) in the United States. Over the years, he has combined his clinical work with academic roles and currently teaches hematology at Tel Aviv University.
Research and Publications
Alongside his practice, he has published more than 100 scientific articles. His work often looks at innovative treatments such as CAR-T therapy, new approaches to immunotherapy in CLL, and how blood cancer patients respond to infections like COVID-19 and to vaccination.
